Gerda’s Café brings a unique coffeehouse experience to the heart of Røros, where history, tradition, and cozy atmosphere come together. Inspired by the charm of the UNESCO World Heritage mining town, our café offers a warm and welcoming space where guests can enjoy exceptional coffee surrounded by the timeless beauty of Røros’ historic wooden buildings.

Created in response to a growing desire for a modern coffee experience—similar to what you would find in Trondheim or Oslo—Gerda’s Café was designed to offer something different from the traditional local cafés. Instead of automatic coffee, standard cake selections, and self-service, we combine the elegance of Vienna’s classic coffeehouse culture with freshly prepared barista coffee, homemade international cakes, and fine pastries.

Our concept is deeply rooted in family history. Gerda’s Café is inspired by our grandmother’s treasured recipe collection and the black-and-white films she created as a young, independent woman during her travels around the world in the late 1920s. Her spirit of curiosity, quality, and elegance continues to shape everything we do.

The café itself was carefully expanded and designed in the authentic style of a Viennese coffeehouse from that same era. With only 22 seats, we offer an intimate atmosphere where personal table service and handcrafted pastries of true confectionery quality can be enjoyed in comfort and style.
